Gamification

Problem

The company that was involved in this project wanted it to be easy for their customers to perform tasks in their accounting programme. So the challenge was to implement gamification into the programme without making it annoying for the users but still provide them with a joyful experience.

Solution

Badges were created that the user received when they finished tasks in the programme. For example the first time they handled an invoice in the programme. All the badges were collected at the users profile to make them feel motivated to collect more, and a progress bar displayed their progress.

Usability testing

The study relies on user tests and surveys performed before and after implementation of gamification where the participants got to solve tasks and collect trophies, then the user experience was compared and analysed in both. The study also relies on recordings of the users interacting with the programme to see what difficulties they may have had, and to get a feel for how long time it took for them to perform their tasks.
